General Questions

What is ConvertIQ AI Product Quiz?

ConvertIQ AI Product Quiz is a Shopify app that helps merchants create interactive product recommendation quizzes. Shoppers answer a series of questions, and the app recommends suitable products or variants based on their responses.

How can a product quiz help my store?

A product quiz can help shoppers find relevant products more quickly, reduce uncertainty, improve product discovery, and guide customers toward items that fit their preferences or needs.

Do I need coding knowledge to use ConvertIQ?

No. You can create, customize, preview, and publish quizzes through the app dashboard and Shopify theme editor without writing code.

What types of stores can use ConvertIQ?

ConvertIQ can be used by stores in many industries, including beauty, skincare, fashion, wellness, home goods, gifts, electronics, food, and other categories where shoppers benefit from guided recommendations.

Can I create more than one quiz?

Yes. The number of active quizzes you can use depends on your current plan. You can also keep quizzes inactive while editing or preparing them for future campaigns.

Can I duplicate an existing quiz?

Yes. You can duplicate a quiz when you want to reuse its structure, questions, or settings without rebuilding everything from the beginning.

Can I temporarily hide a quiz without deleting it?

Yes. You can deactivate a quiz to stop it from appearing on your storefront while keeping its setup available for later use.

Is the app available in multiple languages?

The app dashboard supports multiple languages. Merchants can select their preferred supported language from the Settings page.

Are my own quiz questions translated automatically?

No. Merchant-created content, such as quiz titles, questions, answer labels, descriptions, and product information, remains under your control. You should enter that content in the language you want shoppers to see.

Getting Started

What should I do first after installing ConvertIQ?

Open the app from your Shopify admin and review the Home page. Before creating a quiz, index the products you want the app to use for recommendations.

Why should I index products before creating a quiz?

Indexed products provide the catalog information needed for AI quiz generation, product matching, recommendations, variant selection, and storefront results.

Where can I see all my quizzes?

Your quizzes appear on the Home page. From there, you can create, edit, preview, duplicate, activate, deactivate, or delete quizzes.

Can I test the app before publishing a quiz?

Yes. You can create and preview quizzes while they are inactive. This lets you test the flow and recommendations before making the quiz visible to shoppers.

Is there a recommended setup order?

A practical setup order is:
  1. Index your products.
  2. Create a quiz.
  3. Add or review questions.
  4. Configure product matching.
  5. Adjust quiz settings.
  6. Apply a design kit.
  7. Preview and test the quiz.
  8. Activate and publish it.
  9. Review Analytics and Answers.

    Product and Collection Indexing
    What does product indexing mean?

Product indexing prepares your Shopify product and variant information so ConvertIQ can use it for quiz generation and recommendations.

    How do I index products?

Open the Products page, select the products you want to use, and choose the indexing action. You can search for products and use the Indexed or Not Indexed filters to review their status.

Can I index products by collection?

Yes. Open the Collections tab, choose a collection, and index the products inside it. This is useful for seasonal campaigns, category-specific quizzes, or curated product groups.

Can I index all products at once?

An option to index or reindex larger groups of products may be available depending on your plan and catalog limits.

    Are product variants indexed too?

Yes. ConvertIQ can index product variants so quiz recommendations can include purchasable options such as sizes, colors, materials, or other variant choices. Variant indexing limits depend on your plan.

What happens if I change product information in Shopify?

After making important changes to product details, tags, variants, or other matching information, reindex the affected products so ConvertIQ can use the updated data.

Can I remove products from the index?

Yes. Products that you no longer want to use in quiz recommendations can be removed from the indexed catalog.

Can I edit product tags from ConvertIQ?

The Products area includes tag-management tools. After changing tags, reindex the product so the updated information can be used for matching.

Why is a product not appearing in recommendations?

Confirm that the product is active in Shopify, indexed in ConvertIQ, available for purchase, and compatible with the matching rules used by the quiz.

    Creating Quizzes
What are the available ways to create a quiz?

You can create a quiz by generating it with AI, starting from a template, or beginning with a blank quiz.

What is the fastest way to create a quiz?

Generate with AI is usually the fastest option. Select relevant indexed products or collections, allow the app to create a draft, and then review the generated questions and matching setup.

How does AI quiz generation work?

You select products or collections that represent the intended recommendation set. ConvertIQ uses the selected catalog information to create a draft quiz with questions, answer options, and matching-ready values.

Why does AI generation ask for product data consent?

AI generation uses information from the products or collections you select. The consent step makes this use clear before the data is processed for quiz generation.

Does an AI-generated quiz publish automatically?

No. The generated quiz is a draft. You should review its questions, answer options, matching logic, design, and results before activating and publishing it.

Can I edit an AI-generated quiz?

Yes. AI-generated quizzes are fully editable. You can change questions, answers, images, matching methods, flow, design, settings, and result behavior.

When should I use a template?

Use a template when you want a ready-made structure that you can customize for your products and audience.

When should I start with a blank quiz?

Start blank when you already know exactly which questions, answer options, and recommendation rules you want to create.

Can I import a quiz from a JSON file?

Import options may only be available in certain environments or app versions. Most merchants should use AI generation, templates, duplication, or blank quiz creation.

    Questions and Answer Options

What question types can I add?

ConvertIQ supports several question types, including text choices, image choices, large-image choices, color choices, text input, and informational note screens.

When should I use image-based questions?

Use image questions when shoppers can make a better decision visually, such as selecting a style, shape, finish, product type, or desired result.

    What is a large-image question?

A large-image question gives visual options more prominence. It is useful for visually driven quizzes and may require a plan that supports the feature.

When should I use a color question?

Use a color question when shoppers need to select a shade, finish, palette, or other color-based preference.

Can shoppers enter their own information?

Yes. Text-input questions can collect information such as preferences, names, or email addresses. Make sure you clearly explain why you are requesting any personal information.

    What is a note question?

A note screen displays information without requiring the shopper to choose an answer. It can introduce the quiz, explain a step, or prepare the shopper for the results.

Can I make a question required?

Yes. Required questions must be completed before the shopper can continue.

    Can shoppers skip questions?

You can allow skipping on questions where an answer is optional. The Skip button only appears when skipping is enabled.

    Can shoppers select multiple answers?

Multi-select can be enabled for supported choice questions when more than one response should be accepted.

    Can I reorder questions?

Yes. Questions can be reordered in the builder so you can control the sequence of the shopper experience.

    Can I duplicate a question?

Yes. Duplicating a question is helpful when you want to reuse a similar format or set of settings.

Can I add images to individual answer options?

Yes. Supported question types allow you to upload or assign images to answer options.

    Quiz Flow and Branching
    What is branching logic?

Branching logic sends shoppers to different questions depending on their answers. It helps keep the quiz relevant and avoids showing unnecessary steps.

Can an answer skip directly to another question?

Yes. An answer can be configured to continue normally or jump to a specific later question.

Can different answers lead to different quiz paths?

Yes. Option-level routing allows individual answers to direct shoppers through different paths.

What is a good use case for branching?

For example, beginners can be sent to educational questions, while experienced shoppers can move directly to product-preference questions.

Can branching cause shoppers to get stuck?

Poorly configured paths can lead to incomplete flows. Preview and test every branch to make sure each possible path reaches the results page.

Should I use branching on every question?

No. Use it only where it improves relevance or shortens the experience. Too many branches can make a quiz difficult to manage.

    Product Recommendations

How does ConvertIQ choose recommended products?

ConvertIQ can use smart matching, exact filters, or manually selected products. The method you choose determines how shopper answers are connected to the indexed catalog.

What is Soft Filter or Smart Match?

Soft Filter uses the meaning and context of shopper answers to rank suitable indexed products and variants. It works well when preferences are flexible or products overlap across several needs.

When should I use Soft Filter?

Use Soft Filter when you want the app to find the best available matches instead of requiring every product to satisfy a strict rule.

How can I improve Soft Filter results?

Use clear answer labels and descriptive matching values. Phrases such as “sensitive skin,” “daily use,” or “lightweight style” provide more useful context than vague one-word values.

    What is a Hard Filter?

A Hard Filter applies an exact requirement before products are ranked. It can filter recommendations using Shopify variant options or product categories.

When should I use a Hard Filter?

Use it when an answer must match something exact, such as Size, Color, Material, or a specific Shopify product category.

Why do Hard Filters sometimes return few results?

A strict filter can exclude many products. Check the selected category, option name, allowed values, and indexed product data if the result set is too small.

    What is Specific Products mode?

Specific Products mode lets you manually choose which indexed products an answer is allowed to recommend.

When should I use Specific Products mode?

Use it for campaign quizzes, hero-product funnels, curated collections, or situations where you need complete control over the products connected to an answer.

Can one quiz use different matching methods?

Yes. Different questions or answer options can use the matching method that best fits their purpose.

Can shoppers choose variants from quiz results?

Yes. Depending on your results settings, shoppers can see grouped product cards with variant selectors or separate cards for individual variants.

Can shoppers add recommended products directly to the cart?

Yes. Supported result cards allow shoppers to select a product or variant and add it to the cart from the recommendation results.

Can quiz results include subscription purchase options?

Subscription purchase options can be shown when they are enabled and compatible with the product’s Shopify selling-plan setup. Availability may depend on your store configuration and supported subscription setup.

Can I control how many products are recommended?

Yes. You can set the maximum number of results displayed, typically from 5 to 20 products.

What is the difference between grouped products and variant cards?

Grouped products show one product card with available variant choices. Variant cards display individual variants as separate recommendation results.

    Quiz Settings and Design
Can I change the quiz title?

Yes. You can edit the quiz title and internal description from the quiz settings.

What is the internal quiz description used for?

The internal description helps you and your team identify the purpose of a quiz. It is useful when managing multiple campaigns or quiz versions.

Can I add a custom thumbnail or image to a quiz?

Yes. You can add a custom image URL for the quiz artwork shown inside the app.

Can I customize the Back, Next, Skip, Required, and Finish labels?

Yes. These shopper-facing labels can be customized so they match your language and brand tone.

    What are Design Kits?

Design Kits are reusable visual styles for quizzes. They control elements such as typography, backgrounds, buttons, answer options, progress indicators, inputs, and result cards.

Can I preview a Design Kit before applying it?

Yes. You can preview supported question types and result screens before assigning the kit to a quiz.

Can I create my own Design Kit?

Plans that support custom design editing allow you to duplicate an existing kit and modify its fonts, colors, borders, backgrounds, spacing, and component styles.

Can I use one Design Kit on multiple quizzes?

Yes. A reusable Design Kit can help maintain consistent branding across several quizzes.

Can I add a background image?

Yes. Supported Design Kit settings allow you to add a background image. Make sure the image does not reduce the readability of questions or answers.

Can I change the result card design?

Yes. Result styling can include product images, typography, spacing, buttons, borders, and other card presentation settings.

    Can I add custom CSS?

Custom styling options may be available depending on your app configuration and plan. Use custom CSS carefully and test changes on desktop and mobile.

    Can I customize quiz transitions?

Yes. You can choose supported transition effects and durations to control how the quiz moves between questions.

    Publishing on the Storefront
How do I publish a quiz on my Shopify store?

Activate the quiz, copy its Quiz ID, open the Shopify theme editor, add the Product Quiz app block, and paste the Quiz ID into the block settings.

    What is a Quiz ID?

A Quiz ID is the unique identifier used by the storefront block to load the correct quiz.

Where can I place a quiz?

You can place the Product Quiz block in supported Shopify theme sections or page templates through the theme editor.

Can the quiz use the full page width?

Yes. The Product Quiz block includes display controls such as full width and spacing settings.

Can I adjust the space above and below the quiz?

Yes. You can configure top and bottom spacing in the storefront block settings.

What is the floating quiz launcher?

The floating launcher is a storefront button that helps shoppers open or navigate to the quiz from other areas of the store.

Can I change the floating launcher text?

Yes. You can set a custom button label that clearly encourages shoppers to take the quiz.

Can I choose where the floating button appears?

Yes. You can choose a supported corner position and adjust its horizontal and vertical offsets.

Can the floating launcher link to a dedicated quiz page?

Yes. You can provide a quiz page URL when your store uses a dedicated landing page. Depending on the configuration, it may also direct shoppers to a quiz block on the current page.

Should I test the quiz on mobile?

Yes. Always test the full quiz flow, results, product selection, and add-to-cart behavior on both desktop and mobile.

Why is my quiz not appearing on the storefront?

    Check that:
    1. The quiz is active.
    2. The Product Quiz block is added to the correct template.
    3. The Quiz ID is copied exactly.
    4. The theme changes are saved.
    5. The quiz has valid questions and paths.
    6. Relevant products are indexed.

Why is the floating launcher not appearing?

Confirm that the Quiz App block or app embed is enabled, the theme changes are saved, and the launcher settings contain a valid destination.

    Analytics and Shopper Answers
What information is available in Analytics?

Analytics can include quiz sessions, completions, completion rate, median completion time, product clicks, add-to-cart actions, cart conversion, device mix, question exits, trends, recommendation quality, and optimization insights.

    What is a quiz session?

A session represents one shopper’s interaction with a quiz. It may be incomplete or completed depending on how far the shopper progressed.

    What does completion rate mean?

Completion rate is the percentage of quiz sessions that reached the results stage.

    What is median completion time?

Median completion time shows the typical amount of time shoppers need to complete the quiz, without being overly affected by unusually long sessions.

How can I find where shoppers leave the quiz?

Review question exits, completion trends, progress data, and drop-off information to identify steps where shoppers frequently stop.

Can I see performance by device?

Yes. Device-mix information can help you compare quiz behavior across desktop, mobile, and other supported device categories.

    What are add-to-cart actions?

These show how often shoppers added a recommended product or variant to the cart through the quiz results.

    What is quiz-attributed cart value?

Quiz-attributed cart value estimates the value connected to add-to-cart activity initiated from quiz recommendations. It should be interpreted as quiz-assisted cart activity rather than guaranteed completed revenue.

    What is the Answers page?

The Answers page provides session-level details, including shopper responses, status, progress, time spent, and recommendation outcomes where available.

Can I review each shopper session individually?

Yes. You can move through sessions and inspect the answers and activity recorded for each one.

Can I see which products were shown or clicked?

On supported plans, session outcomes can include product impressions, clicked recommendations, and add-to-cart activity.

    Can I delete test sessions?

Yes. You can remove individual test sessions or broader answer and analytics records using the available deletion controls.

Should I delete test data before launching?

Yes. After confirming that the quiz works correctly, removing test sessions gives you a cleaner reporting baseline for real shopper activity.

Can deleted analytics or answers be recovered?

Treat deletion as permanent. Only remove records you no longer need for reporting or optimization.

    AI Insights and Optimization
    What are AI optimization suggestions?

AI optimization suggestions use quiz performance signals to recommend possible improvements to questions, answer options, wording, or flow.

When do AI insights become useful?

They become more useful after a quiz has collected enough real shopper sessions to reveal patterns such as exits, slow questions, or weak engagement.

What types of improvements can AI suggest?

Suggestions may include improving clarity, reducing unnecessary options, changing question order, simplifying flow, or adjusting question content.

    Are AI suggestions applied automatically?

Not necessarily. You can review a proposed change before applying it. Treat each suggestion as a draft and confirm that it fits your products and customers.

How should I evaluate an AI suggestion?

Consider whether the change makes the quiz clearer, shorter, or more relevant. After applying it, monitor completion, drop-off, clicks, and add-to-cart behavior.

Can AI optimize a quiz with no traffic?

Useful optimization depends on performance data. A quiz with little or no traffic may not have enough evidence for meaningful recommendations.

    Plans, Billing, and Usage
    What plans are available?

ConvertIQ offers Free, Starter, Plus, and Pro plans.

What does the Free plan support?

The Free plan is intended for testing the app with a limited number of quizzes, engagements, indexed products, variants, AI usage, and design features.

Who is the Starter plan for?

Starter is suitable for merchants who need more active quizzes, monthly engagements, indexed catalog capacity, and AI credits than the Free plan provides.

Who is the Plus plan for?

Plus is designed for growing stores that need larger catalog limits, broader analytics access, more design flexibility, and higher usage capacity.

Who is the Pro plan for?

Pro is intended for stores that need the highest catalog and AI allowances, advanced outcomes, stronger optimization tools, and the most flexible design workflow.

    What are AI credits?

AI credits are usage units consumed by supported AI features, such as quiz generation or certain optimization actions.

    What are monthly engagements?

An engagement generally represents shopper interaction with a quiz. Your plan determines the amount of usage included.

What happens when I reach a plan limit?

The app may prevent additional use of the limited feature or show an upgrade prompt. Existing data and behavior depend on the specific limit reached.

    Can I upgrade later?

Yes. You can begin with a smaller plan and upgrade when you need more quizzes, engagements, indexed products, AI credits, analytics, or design features.

    How are upgrades approved?

Plan upgrades use Shopify’s billing flow. Shopify displays the subscription terms for approval before the new plan becomes active.

    Can I downgrade my plan?

Available downgrade options and their effects are shown in the Billing area. Review any impact on active quizzes, indexed catalog limits, design kits, and premium features before confirming.

    Will downgrading delete my quizzes?

A downgrade may limit which quizzes or premium features remain active, but you should review the displayed downgrade impact carefully before making the change.

Where can I see my current usage?

Open the Billing page to review your current plan, usage allowances, and relevant limits.

    Troubleshooting and Best Practices
My quiz returns no recommendations. What should I check?

Confirm that products are indexed, the quiz has valid matching values, Hard Filters are not too strict, selected products are active, and each quiz path reaches the results stage.

My recommendations do not feel relevant. How can I improve them?

Improve the clarity of questions and answer values, reindex updated product information, use descriptive product tags, and choose the matching method that best fits the question.

Should I use Soft Filter or Hard Filter?

Use Soft Filter for flexible preference-based matching. Use Hard Filter only when the result must satisfy an exact category or variant requirement.

How many questions should my quiz contain?

Use only the questions needed to make a useful recommendation. A shorter, focused quiz is usually easier to complete than a long quiz with unnecessary steps.

How many answer options should each question have?

Provide enough options to represent meaningful shopper differences without making the choice overwhelming. Remove options that do not affect recommendations or quiz flow.

What makes a good quiz question?

A good question is clear, easy to answer, relevant to the recommendation, and written in language your shoppers naturally understand.

Should I ask for an email address in the quiz?

Only ask for an email when it serves a clear purpose and your store handles the information according to applicable privacy and marketing requirements.

How often should I review quiz performance?

Review performance after launches, campaigns, catalog changes, or meaningful traffic periods. Avoid making major decisions from only a few sessions.

Should I edit a live quiz?

You can edit a live quiz, but preview and test important changes before relying on them. For major campaigns, consider duplicating the quiz and preparing a separate version.

What should I test before launch?
    Confirm that:
    1. Products and variants are indexed.
    2. Every question is clear.
    3. Required and skip settings work correctly.
    4. Every branch reaches results.
    5. Recommendations are relevant.
    6. Variants can be selected.
    7. Add to cart works.
    8. The quiz is active.
    9. The correct Quiz ID is published.
    10. Analytics and Answers record test activity.
    11. Desktop and mobile layouts work correctly.

Can I use different quizzes for different campaigns?

Yes. You can create quizzes for different collections, audiences, seasons, landing pages, or marketing campaigns.

Can I create a quiz for only one collection?

Yes. Index the relevant collection products and configure the quiz to recommend from that product group.

Can I use ConvertIQ as a gift finder?

Yes. A quiz can guide shoppers by recipient, occasion, budget, style, or preferences and then recommend suitable products.

Can I use ConvertIQ as a skincare or beauty finder?

Yes. Questions can cover goals, concerns, preferences, shades, routines, sensitivities, or product types. Avoid presenting the quiz as professional medical advice.

Can I use ConvertIQ for fashion sizing?

You can use variant filters and preference questions to guide shoppers toward suitable options. Make sure your Shopify size information is accurate and avoid presenting recommendations as guaranteed fit.

Can I preview recommendations before publishing?

Yes. Use the quiz preview to test different answers and confirm that the expected products appear.

Where can I get help if I still have a problem?

Use the support option available in the app or help center. Include the quiz name, Quiz ID, affected storefront page, screenshots, and a clear description of what you expected to happen.
